FUSION PROJECT

My physical works follow a collage process, where visual elements converge to reveal narratives through the act of collage itself. The textual basis of the project comes from a list of “Top Marketing Words & Phrases” that prompts a graphic response. Font selection, distortion effects, and color are selected for their appropriateness or inappropriateness. I’m inspired by “bad design,” corporate motivational posters, Pop Art, and psychedelia, and this project represents an evolution of those ideas. As a professional designer, I am often treading on the edge of good taste at the behest of larger marketing and advertising ideas, and this series plays with that tension.

I am interested in the emptiness of repeated slogans, the clichéd banality of language carefully written and refined until it becomes an empty expression of commerce, that, when removed from its context, evokes much deeper questions about life and existence.
